Hi All;
Maura again. Bill feels much better since antibiotics were started this morning following some growth in his blood cultures, but he is very weak and tired from the events of the past several days. He was very ill yesterday, but now has his first normal temperature in several days. His surgical site is still intact and still not considered to be the source of his infection and previous fever which is great!
Although we would wish for no PE (pulmonary emboli/blood clot in the lung), he has been at very high risk since the initial injury with so many fractures and prolonged immobility, and then the multiple surgeries.....so at least the pulmonary emboli are small. He is on oxygen and increased dosage of the blood thinner that he was already on, but his longterm medication for anticoagulation (blood thinner) is being discussed by neurology and internal medicine to determine a final recommendation. So.....as bad as yesterday was, today is again actually a marvelous improvement.
Hope you have a good Sunday and had a good weekend in spite of the heat! It is cold in San Diego! It is still in the 60's, and I have now experienced my first earthquake (5.4 last week and the whole hospital swayed!!!)! Bill and I just looked at each other and laughed when the hospital was moving literally....what else could happen to us this summer?

I'm so glad to hear that today has been much better. For some reason, I didn't see the previous blog yesterday and got them both today. You all must be so exhausted from all of this. I know that there are lots of people praying for you and I hope the trend continues upward. I'm glad to hear you still have a sense of humor over a little earthquake, but please get home soon! I know you all must want that even more than all of us! Everyone is rooting for you and confident that you will make appropriate headway to get you back on the east coast where you belong. So behave, listen to the doctors, and get better!! We miss you.

God is certainly taking good care of you...He's not ready for you yet!! Each day should find you feeling stronger. Listen to those doctors, ALL of them, and hurry home,

Bill,
ReplyDeleteYou win - I give up my title, Ms. "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong hospital stay" is now yours.
I have been to Dover, Blue Hill and Waterville recently, and they all were asking about you. Apparently you are not as much of a curmudgeon as I thought - who knew?!
Be well, and be nice to Maura; she puts up with you!
Holly
PS I always knew you had a screw loose!
Uncle Bill-
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know we are thinking of you and wishing you well. If there is anything we can do to help, we're on call. I know you've got a great support network in place, just add us to the list of super troopers:) Much love to you, Maura, Will, Maegan and Zach.
